Cyanotype Kit 200 ML

First, you coat a piece of paper or fabric with special light-sensitive chemicals. At this point, nothing is visible yet the surface just looks pale yellow-green and is waiting for light. Then you place objects, plants, or a picture on top of the coated surface and put it outside in the sun.

When sunlight hits the paper, it starts changing the chemicals. The areas that receive light slowly prepare to turn blue, while the areas covered by objects are protected and stay unchanged. Even though you may see the paper darken a little, the image is not fully formed yet.

Next, you rinse the paper with plain water. This is the moment when the picture appears. The chemicals that were hit by sunlight turn into a deep blue color and stay locked into the paper, while the chemicals that never saw light simply wash away. The covered areas become white, and the exposed areas become blue.

As the paper dries, the blue color grows richer and darker. What you end up with is a permanent blue image made using sunlight, water, and chemistry no camera or darkroom needed. That simple process is called cyanotype.

Cyanotype isn’t limited to paper:

Paper: Watercolor paper, drawing paper, or specialty papers.

Fabric/Textiles: Cotton, silk, linen—can be used for clothing, scarves, or wall hangings.

Wood, glass, or metal: Pre-treated surfaces can accept cyanotype solutions for unique textures and decorative purposes.

Mixed media: Overpainting or combining with other media (ink, watercolor, gouache) for layered effects.

• Work in a well-ventilated area.
  
• Wear protective gloves when mixing and handling the solutions.
  
• Avoid direct contact with skin, eyes, and clothing.
  
• Do not ingest the chemicals or inhale powders or vapors.
  

Mixing & Application

• Mix solutions only as instructed.
  
• Use dedicated tools (brushes, trays, containers) that are not used for food.
  
• Avoid splashing; clean spills immediately with water.
  
• Keep solutions away from direct sunlight when not in use.
  

Exposure & Development

• Do not expose mixed chemicals to sunlight until applied to paper or fabric.
  
• Rinse prints thoroughly with water after exposure.
  
• Wash hands thoroughly after handling materials, even if gloves were worn.
  

Storage

• Store chemicals in clearly labeled, tightly sealed containers.
  
• Keep out of reach of children and pets.
  
• Store in a cool, dark place away from heat and food preparation areas.
