The Stranger - solo exhibition at OX Space Rotterdam
Drawing on the existential terrain mapped by Albert Camus, Ričards Briška presents The Stranger, a photographic installation that transforms familiar landscapes and faces into meditations on alienation, loss, and the limits of understanding. The work engages the viewer in a sustained dialogue with absence - interrogating the paradox of connection and isolation that defines contemporary existence, where individuals often feel most alone while surrounded by others.
Briška's photographs function as both artistic statement and philosophical inquiry, producing visual translations that, beneath their quiet surfaces, invite contemplation of the human condition. The installation deliberately guides visitors through a narrative journey mirroring the protagonist's experience - moving from familiarity through estrangement toward a deeper encounter with what can be seen and what remains unknowable. In these works, the artist makes use of the photographic medium to explore established notions of belonging; each image becomes a transponder, a vehicle that excites recognition of one's own reflection in the everyday.
The exhibition challenges conventional formats, fostering meaningful exchange among attendees about identity and displacement in modern urban life.
